Open-E JovianDSS Data Storage Software Updated

Open-E released a new update for their award-winning ZFS-based product, JovianDSS. Major improvements of the software include Fibre Channel target mode, new functionalities in the On- and Off-site Data Protection feature and VLAN Support in the storage management software.

Fibre Channel uses a high-speed network technology for data storage and is a popular type of connection for high performance SAN Enterprise storage because it offers high throughput and low latency. Open-E JovianDSS supports the Fibre Channel technology in two ways: as an Initiator for connecting external Fibre Channel devices, and now also as a Target, for serving virtual volumes over the Fibre Channel protocol. This is why the software is well-suited for creating SAN topologies for virtualization, data centers or other platforms that handle huge amounts of data.

Some of the other features in the update 25 of Open-E JovianDSS include:

  • Improvements for On- and Off-site Data Protection in High Availability environments

  • On-and Off-site Data Protection transfer automatic resume for a safe replication process

  • VLAN support for separating certain services from each other

  • Software and hardware (IPMI) watchdog in cluster setups for a faster and more efficient response to any type of the system stability issues

  • SMB Trusted Domains support for simplified communication

Krzysztof Franek, CEO and president of Open-E: “By adding another set of advanced functionalities to Open-E JovianDSS, we not only provide our users with much more storage efficiency, data safety and overall flexibility. We also prove that our recent win in the DCS Awards as Data Centre ICT Storage Product of the Year was absolutely well-earned.“
