Zimbra adds secure file sync share with Mezeo buy

Let’s be honest here, consumer-grade file sharing is widely used by enterprises. At times IT turns a blind eye to its use behind the company firewall. Most times though, they do so because of lack of budget, time, will, or executive support to deploy an enterprise-level file sharing option.

However, many of these public file share systems come attached with risks for the enterprise. Enterprise File Share and Sync (EFSS) mitigate these risks by giving IT centralized control, compliance and security while giving users secure usability for themselves.

Unified Communication vendor Zimbra believes that secure file sync and share shouldn’t be a third party option and has thus acquired Mezeo technology, including patents that cover aspects of storage efficiency and file security, to meet its commitment to secure and private collaboration.

"Secure file-sync-and-share is critical for today's users, and it's one of the capabilities Zimbra customers request most often," said Patrick Brandt, CEO, Zimbra. "With the acquisition of Mezeo, we are expanding our product offering to now include user-friendly file-sync-and-share, while also enabling complete control over data, which provides tremendous value to our customers and partners worldwide."

According to Forrester, "With consumerization driving employees to bring personal smartphones and tablets to work, employees' need to synchronize files grew from a whisper to a scream over the past few years. Twenty-one percent of global information workers use file sync solutions. The scream will grow louder as the number of tablets will triple to 905 million by 2017 to join the billions of computers and smartphones used for work." MezeoFile, a file-sync-and-share application, and MezeoCloud, an on-premise cloud storage platform, enable IT professionals to meet security and compliance requirements while offering end users an intuitive user experience that is comparable to easy-to-use consumer file sharing technology.

According to Zimbra blog post the acquisition will enable Zimbra to bring secure file sync and share and effective cloud storage to its collaboration offering, complementing its mobile-first approach and aligns with the company’s commitment to secure, private collaboration.
