Responding to demands for more cost-effective ways of combating the relentless onslaught of cyberattacks, EMC announced its acquisition of security firm Aveska and will add it to the product portfolio of RSA EMC’s security products division. The integration of Aveksa and RSA technologies will enable better visibility, prioritization, detection and response to risk and real-time threats.
Aveksa gives companies the ability to manage employee access to corporate software and data in a fine-grained way at a very large scale using Big Data analytics to determine what a typical employee in a particular role, for example a salesperson, should be allowed to access at a particular company. It determines that a salesperson should have access to certain applications such as Salesforce.com but not accounts payable software. The software triggers alarms when it notices unusual activity.
Aveksa's will help extend RSA's vision of Adaptive Identity Access Management (IAM), designed to transform traditional static systems into agile, intelligent and scalable “situational perimeters” to help organizations dynamically manage user lifecycles and access across enterprise and cloud environments .
According to EMC, Aveksa will operate within the RSA security division as part of RSA's Identity Trust Management product group helping RSA bring innovative new solutions to identity and access management challenges across enterprise, cloud and mobile access use cases. The expanded offering will give organizations the ability to automate the complete identity lifecycle of users from a business-driven perspective, helping turn traditional IAM systems into more agile, intelligent and scalable “situational perimeters.”
In today's increasingly cloud-based and application-centric world, authentication, authorization and identity management have become even more intertwined, complex and critical. The model for each user has shifted from a single authentication to an enterprise network, to dozens of authentications to applications and related data, from multiple user devices, across cloud and on-premise infrastructures. The task of ensuring that the right users get access to appropriate company resources has traditionally been IT-driven, using legacy IAM solutions to enforce all the policies, processes, procedures and applications that help organizations manage access to information. The lack of intelligence and business context has led to increased risk of data breaches, non-compliance and excessive privilege.
According to Forrester, the Aveksa access governance solution, which includes access request management and approval, attestation, role mining and management, user account provisioning, identity administration and auditing will augment RSA's existing product lines for access control product lines into a modern and full functionality IAM portfolio using risk and identity intelligence concepts.
